Vicenta Flores, or Vicky as most people knew her, disappeared from Discovery Bay on Lantau island in Hong Kong on or around 7 April 2008. Her body was found in Tung Chung harbour on the far side of the island on 11 April. Since that time there has been little media coverage of the situation, conflicting reports from the police about how their investigation is being conducted and growing community concern that justice may not prevail.
Following a meeting on 19 April, members of the Discovery Bay community in association with Filipino migrant organisations established this blog to air our concerns about the circumstances surrounding Vicky’s death and the lack of transparency in ongoing investigations. We also plan to collect and collate any relevant information that should be considered in determining how and why Vicky went missing.
Discovery Bay is a small community housing people from all over the world. We’re all different, but we value everyone equally. To lose one of our own is a shock; to fail to act would be a travesty.
A petition urging the authorities to properly investigate Vicky’s death has been drafted and will begin circulating tomorrow. We’ll post a copy of it here later tonight, after it has been translated into Chinese.
If anyone has any information about Vicky’s disappearance that they think will be helpful, please contact the police as soon as possible. The Discovery Bay Forum covers a lot of what we already know, but so much needs to be clarified.
You can also leave comments in response to this or any further posts, whether you want to give your name or not.
Together we can make a difference, honour Vicky’s memory and help her family. We’ll keep you posted about all activities and developments. Please assist if you can.

just something bout vicky, she knows me by first name but i didnt, not until i saw her picture at the vigil. we heve talked and mingled and i know shes not the type of person who will commit suicide.for this am happy to know that expats and other concern citizens are very much willing to give justice to her death. from the bottom of our hearts,we who knows her would like TO EXTEND OUR GRATITUDE TO THOSE WHO ARE GIVING TIME,GIVING MONEY,DOING EFFORT TO GIVE JUSTICE FOR HER DEATH. As i had a silent prayer on the night of the vigil i couldnt help myself but cry imagining how she died, how she struggled for her life, how she pleaded if she was even given a chance. Its GRUESOME.her death is. i cant believe this could happen to a soft spoken person like her.not her.SO,TO THOSE WHO ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO HELP SOLVE THE CASE,IN BEHALF OF THE FILIPINO DOMESTIC HELPERS IN DISCOVERY BAY,THANK YOU VERY MUCH.THANK YOU AND WE ARE HOPING JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED.
My heart goes to “VICKY” Flores and her family, what I can’t understand is: if her employer, or who ever saw her running out of the house in pajamas and without slippers upon the arrival of her employers from holiday, why did they not report to the authorities immediately? I am sure nobody will just kill herself if this is the case, without any cause as most of filipinos are “GOD” fearing… and it’s not a “FILIPINO” way of life to commit suicide to solve problems. Life is precious and “GOD” is the giver of this, and it’s only HIM who has the right to take it back.
I wish justice for her death, and all other filipinos who suffered and died, and all those still suffering, that justice will always prevail…
I am not a Catholic, but I was there in a vigil last night, april 21 for the sake of unity and support for prayers that justice for vicky would prevail. It is very satisfying to know that inspite of the sadness of Vickys death, which is a big question for everyone, the filipino community as well as those good hearted employers and neighbors were there.. leaving behind the denomination, race, status as it is the spirit of love to fellowmen that counts.I believe that there is a message conveyed to these happening, and i think it is what that matters. For us who are still alive, whether helper, boss, friends,or neighbors..we should get the message.Death is really likened unto a thief in the night. It would come without us knowing and on what way it would come. So,better ready all the time.Take everyday as if it is your lastDo good to everyone,be a channel of peace and happiness and treat each and everyone as very special person from God.We should not wait anymore a scene like this to begin appreciating one another. If you are the boss, treat your helper as human being as you also have the boss which is in heaven. If you are the helper, serve your boss like you are serving God..We all know that we are not of this world,we are just passersby. If the life of Vicky was instrumental for this message, lets be happy we are not Vicky, but should think that even us dont know on how should we die.
To the one who killed or murdered Vicky Florez, you might not be aware that you too will face physical death.Your conscience will keep haunting you.Your treasure on earth will just delay your death but cant avoid death.I would salute you while you go to prison for life if you come out and tell evryone that you did murdered Vicky, and asking forgiveness to God for doing so.Admit that you were used by the Devil Lucifer…and it will mean the devils downfall or defeat!Rather than wearing a nice silky suite, branded accessories, glittering looks, but with a consciense full of guilt,iI preffer to see you naked but humble in the prison cell for life while on earth!I could slap you million times in your face, spit you til my mouth dried up of saliva, kick you to stumble, but it wont change the fact that you are the murderer or the killer.Only your heartfelt surrender and kind asking for forgiveness and making a promise that from now on ,not your will but The heavenly Father in heavens will be done in your life, could take away all your sins. You may serve three times your life time in prison but will never be set free from sin and guilt. If you are the one who killed vicky, and still no any guilt…then you are much lower in level than the dogs that vicky are taking care for 12 years!.It is not who you killed that matters! You might killed the very noturios gang member,or the very simple person, shy,God fearing, friendly, and helpful girl like vicky…still you are a criminal, and you dont have the right to take away anybodys life for you are not the God who giveth away the precious life to aeveryone including you! I want to call you stupid, but i will not, because it is not me who would rate you as.There is God in this wide universe who can pathom even the very depth of your being! So,come up from your shell, murderer!
To all the Dbay residents who had helped organize the force to get united, and to all employers who are the exact opposite of the one who murdered vicky, i salute you guys! May your kind increase!
To all those who true testimony regarding what really had happened, please consider telling it as your greatest achievemnt in life.Just remember the saying that says,:it is only by letting those who have the opportunity to do good do nothing that makes the devil win.
Sa lahat ng mga kapwa ko Pinoys,as always emphasized by tita keri and kuya mike in the philippines tonight show, pinoy parin tayo…ipakita natin ang pagkkaisa,di lang sa ganitong panahon kundi sa lahat ng oras para lalong maiwasan ang iba pang sakuna.Let us feel free to greet each other as a sign of caring one another, para maramdaman natin na may kakampi tayo lagi.At sa mga residente na d2,magpakita nmn kayo n humble kayo, para di na maging aloof ang mga katulong sa inyo.We should be proud of you as our kababayan na nakapag asawa ng ibang lahi.Status lang ang nag iba sa atin pero di ang ugali,di ba? Let our fellow domestic helper feel that they are not belittled by even saying hi and hello to them,it would somehow relieve their pain and sadness.
To the family of Vicky, justice delayed is not denied! it is always a justice and we dont want it delayed! Thats why we will help in any way we can.Have faith in God that justice will prevail sooooon!!
Oppppps, nphaba na ako,but i am so thankful for the unity of the discoverybay people who gathered for one accord…and to those who will still be a part of the gathering to come for the justice of vicky florez….God will doubly bless each one of you….
